Internal Affairs: How to cope with growth

You may have noticed our struggle for bandwidth lately. Fact is, we have grown considerably this year, and this caused problems regarding the bandwidth limit we shared with our hosted sites. This growth and the fact that we gave free asylum to a rather large fan site, Sorcerers Place (their former network went under), forced us to try to raise money to stay online. We had good response from our visitors, but this isn't something I would like to rely on for the future.

Thus, we made the decision to change a few things regarding the site and the network. First of all, we aquired a second server that will be the new home of RPGDot. So this site will move within the next two weeks, probably causing some downtime of a day or two. The second change is that our hosted sites will use our current server for themselves, not sharing it with us anymore. We will have a keen eye on the bandwidth there, not accepting new sites unless we can ensure that they will, all together, stay within the limits. Our hosted sites will now carry banners (popups) in order to fund the server for themselves. Blinkingdot and RPGSites will just be front pages to them, nothing more. RPGFool will cease to exist - the shop has already been integrated into RPGDot, the sweepstakes will move to our site, too. On our new server (with a very generous bandwidth limit), we will just run RPGDot, evaluating how much load it will put on the server alone.

These actions will ensure that we can bear the costs of the site and that we will be able to run it in the future. Changes will take place early August, and we will give you an advance warning for the downtime.
