Horrible mindless. Addictive at first, yes, but I was waiting for something interesting to happen. Cut scenes could have been interesting if there was any depth to the game but there's not. Automatic teleports? Stupid! Thousands of useless magic items? Stupid! I kept thinking they could have made a nice RPG out of this. |

It was better than Diablo 1, and provided a nice escape from hours of boredom when I allowed myself to get caught up in the level/item find madness on Battlenet.
I liked the underlying story and loved the cutscenes... but this was no RPG. |

Not a true RPG, but it is the sheer brilliance of the gameplay that was the big hook. That and the search for unique items... and fighting the bosses... and the brilliant skills system... and the fact I must have played this for 500+ hours and it still looked fresh. |

The single player mode is mediocre, agreed, but this game is meant to be played with other players, and in multiplayer mode the gameplay is perfect.
I believe everyone who voted <= 5 points for this game has only played single player and thereby missed the point, unfortunately.
5 for SP, 10 for MP, leaves 7.5 - I'll make it 7 because the add-on is similar but improves the gameplay even further. |

First of all, I doubt Blizzard ever intended this to be considered an RPG. It's a hack and slash, aimed at the sort of powergamers who like to get characters to level 50 before finishing the Baldur's Gates of this world, and who then complain that the final boss was too easy.
I also personally approve of the decision to make saving the game (without exiting) impossible. Your mistakes stay with you, which isn't too bad, since you aren't punished too harshly for dying.
The trouble for me was that there was no real incentive. It's all very well trying to collect the nice items, but in the time I spent doing that (far too long!), I could have been doing something I really *enjoyed*, rather than merely felt compelled towards.
'Addictive' isn't always a compliment. |

This was my introduction to the world of CRPGs. Very addictive. I spent the first 2 weeks I had the game playing non-stop. Barely remembering to eat and sleep.
The cinematics are great.
Loved this game.

As the most addictive game ever made by mankind, this game cost me nerly 1 year of my life.. Too bad the Multiplayer part is all about powergaming and godly items, but when you find some cool friends to play with it's just awesome fun. Too bad an infinite list of bugs/exploits and hacks can ruin your experience, but it didn't for me :) |

Based on the amount of entertainment I must say it's a great game. Although it has very little to do with RPG. Especially when you dont play it on the internet you have a game that is interesting for about a week or so. In multiplayer the game really rocks and kept me busy for about a good year of gaming but that had more to do with the online community (trading items and optimizing a character) |

A truely enjoyable quick thrill. 4 days of serious play finds you face to face with diablo himself in the final battle. Graphics were nice, character advancment fun, and the story line was hooking. But when all is said and done I must demote the game for lack of length, and depth. |

I give it an 8 for effort. The release of this game was with few bugs. Very good gameplay IMO, and that in itself deserves a decent rating. BTW if you have stats, levels, classes.. Your considered an RPG... Dunno why though :P |

Not surprised this game doesn't appeal to the hardcore RPGers at this site... and reviewing as a single-player only person, so bnet hassles don't effect me... To my mind, this game is like solitaire: you get a new hand every time, and though the elements are limited they can be recombined in endless ways. Thus, infinitely addictive for innumerable years. Plus it's mindless enough that I can play while listening to radio or talking on the phone. The items system, IMO, is brilliant and though often imitated has never been equalled in its power to keep you hunting... and hunting... and hunting... |

I really liked the first Diablo and can't understand how the sequel could be SO AWFULL. How could a game released several years after its predecesor have graphic which looks like made several years BEFORE the predecesor?! I can remember only one another case when it happends in game history - UFO3. Dialbo II is the next one - Yuck! ; another thing is the stupid skill system?! Why such simple game has such over-complicated annoyng and boring skill-tree sytem?!; next thing are the items - again SO boring. The shops had never-ever anything I would be interested in buying (unlike in Diablo I where I could save money to buy cool items form one boy under a tree, in Diablo II a just didn't find any way how o actually span my money) and most of the items I had found were just crap. I understand that there rare items are supposed to be "rare", OK, but I had finished the game 2 times (taking some areas several times, thought), yet I had not found a single time even a second peace of any set (how am I supposed to make a 5-pieces set... play the game 100 times?! Thats just crazy!). Also the game has less story and even less atmosphee than the Diablo I (I am missing cool monsters like the "butcher".). I could continue, but lets just say that even the rest of the game expect the cut-scenes is really weak compared o Diablo I and the main reason why D2 had good sales IMHO is the fame of D1 and the lack of simmilar games on the market. Diablo II is the worst game from Blizzard. |

I didn't like Diablo 2 without LoD, played it once and thought st lilke "D2 sux, D1 was much better" and forgot D2. Then LoD came out and Druid Shapeshifter (read some reviews) intrigued me... I discovered www.diabloii.net and brave new world of D2 opened... |
