PlayXcess has also posted a review of Nival's RPG-flavored strategy game 'Etherlords II'. Rating: 8/10.
Card games have something of a chequered history. When you think of cards, what often springs to mind is the noble and tense game of poker; obese American men with patently ridiculous names and sweat stains gambling away their savings in the pathetic hope of ‘the big win’. Whilst poker might seem more aggrandised due to the links with the great Vegas tradition, it is but one step away from shell suit clad jobseekers, squandering away their benefits on the fruit machines. Card games exist on other levels save the sordid casino. Who can forget the limited wonder of Top Trumps? A game as exciting as swapping random numbers and hoping one wins. We won’t even mention the pestilential horror that is Bruce’s Play your Cards Right. Then there are the kinds of cards that allow you to invoke demented warriors and destructive spells; a feature found exclusively in the world of Etherlords.
