There is a new Xenus Dev Diary at ActionVault today, talking about Guerillas:
The guerrilla movement in Colombia is the oldest in all Latin America. The history of the biggest guerrilla organizations in Colombia - FARC-EP (Revolutionary Armed Forces de Colombia - People's Army) and ELN (Army of National Liberation) is over 40 years long. These organizations started their history from small jungle and city troops, less than 50 in number. Nowadays, these organizations have become a lot bigger (FARC-EP is over 18,000 fighters), gained battle experience, and have real power in many regions of the country. For a considerable time, these guerrilla movements were acting apart, but in 1987, they united in the GCSB (Bolivarian Union for New Colombia), and now they're coordinating their actions and carrying out joint operations against the officials' army and Colombian "death squadrons". Now, they control about 30% of the country. |
