Gamespy has written a preview of Magic The Gathering Online. Seems to be a fun MMORPG if you dig the card game, and completely irrelevant if you don't :-). Here's a bit:
Once you've built your deck, you can enter various rooms where you'll see table after table of players playing. Just pick an opponent, sit down, and you'll fire up a game together. You can also play in tournaments, which are a big part of the online service. "We have a really robust tournament system!" beamed Murray, who showed us the variety of options: Sealed deck tournaments (everyone starts with nothing but a mystery deck that they can keep afterwards), ranked tournaments (the system tracks every player with a chess-like ranking system), and even leagues. Leagues are a great way to slowly work your way into the game. Everyone in the league will start with a basic deck, and everyone will get a booster every week or so ... it's a cheap way to get a lot of cards and meet a lot of other players. |
