The Roots - Interview Part 1 @ RPG Vault

RPG Vault has posted the first part of an interview with three team members from Tannhauser Gate about 'The Roots'. Tannhauser Gate are known for the MMORPG, Mimesis and this is their first single-player product. Here's a snip:
Jonric: The press release says The Roots has "arena style turn-based, real time combat". What does this mean, especially the "turn-based real time" part? And how important is combat?

Artur Jaskolski: While The Roots is no doubt an action game, I would never say it features hack 'n' slash type of gameplay, for it doesn't. Combat is a very vital game element and we have devoted ourselves to creating it in a way that it has good chances to provide players with an exceptional gaming experience. All encounters will take place in specially designed arenas - sort of like those known from Final Fantasy series. However, this is where the similarities end, for the combat system we implemented in The Roots is a hybrid of a turn-based system with real-time.[More...]
