You know the situation when a dog tries to catch his tail? This is what i think of when I see the reviews of Purge on the net. Most of them state that the game itself is ok, but due to the lack of gamers playing it it isn't much fun at all - so they dish out a lower rating. People see that low rating and think: "No, not worth it", and the next review states that there are too little players to make the game fun. Guess what? The review at Gamer's Pulse characterizes the game as "average" - and one of the reasons for that is - right - the absence of active players, as the conclusion states:
Some games attempt to redefine a genre. Purge tries to incorporate Role playing elements into a game that is a simple shoot’em up online battle. They forgot the key ingredient however, which is to make the game fun for the people playing it. The graphics are decent, while the sound is deplorable. Gameplay is either too fast paced or just unplayable. The inability to truly delve into the development aspects of the characters as much as I would have liked is a major problem as that is one of the draws of the game. Technically there are a few problems that are being worked out but again the lack of people actually playing it hurts since your only choice is online play. Overall, this game will be sitting at the bottom of my pile of games and truthfully will be never heard from again. |
