GameInformer has writtem up some impressions of Square Enix's Final Fantasy X-2 for the PS2:So, the big question is: does it all work? Well, to a degree yes and no, in my humble opinion. On the positive, it’s absolutely great to see a true sequel to a Final Fantasy game, and one that seeks to put some closure on perhaps one of the most emotional stories to come from the franchise. But, on the negative, so much has changed in the game that it seems to end up not really “feeling” like a sequel at all. On hand we get back the characters that we all loved in X, or at least to a degree. Yuna and Rikku are back, and to a degree, characters like Wakka, Lulu, Kimahri, and the gruff but lovable Cid. But, most of those characters are relegated to minor roles, with only Yuna and Rikku really being the major returning ones. Gone are the Aeons and their awesome animations, and in their place are the Garment transformations, which while cool looking, seem a bit hollow compared to their beastly predecessors. While all the new additions really do add up to one creative and engrossing game, they all seem to pull the game away from the fact that this is, after all, meant to be a sequel to Final Fantasy X. |
