RPGVault has the 5th Q&A with the developers of Morrowind up today, this time talking with Project Leader Todd Howard and Programmers Victor Breuggemann and Steve Meister. Heres a snippet from the magic-based interview:

Jonric: As background information, please summarize the basics of magic system in Arena, and also the changes that were implemented in Daggerfall. And how important is magic in the Elder Scrolls series?

Todd Howard: The main thing Arena did that no other game had really done to that point was let the player create their own spells. This really has been one of the hallmarks of the Elder Scrolls series, and it continues in Morrowind. You learn spells and effects, but once you join certain guilds you can actually combine them to create your own. It's really the ultimate in playing a mage. Daggerfall expanded on Arena by changing from experience points to a skill-based system. The magic became skill-based with six schools of magic. Morrowind has six schools as well, but they are slightly different than Daggerfall for balance reasons, and we've added Conjuration. Like everything else in The Elder Scrolls, magic is big and very player definable.
