Apparently, English-speaking news media sources have gotten details wrong about the widely-reported Chinese addiction suit against Blizzard, for it has been revealed that the boy was actually a regular player of Blizzard's previous hit, Warcraft III. World of Warcraft was not available in China until May 2005, however the boy commited suicide in 2004. This doesn't alter the suit's significance, but makes it less plausible in the public eye since MMOGs are generally criticized for being specially engineered to be addictive and Warcraft III is much less known by the non-gaming public. It's yet to be made clear how World of Warcraft got associated with this case in the media. | Source: Slashdot Games |
