Warcry has conducted an interview with Mutable Realms' Dave Rickey about his company's upcoming (U)MMORPG 'Wish'.
Warcry: Wish has many features about which I'd like to ask, but initially, I want to talk about the marketing. "Ultra" Massive Multiplayer Online Game, eh? If Wish goes through an upgrade a couple of years from now, can we expect something like "Ultra Giga Mega" Massive Multiplayer Online Game? What qualifies Wish as an UMMOG?

Dave: When we made the scale jump from the few hundred players per world of the MUD's and early graphical Online RPG's into the "Massively Mutiplayer" range with thousands of players in the same world, what we got wasn't just a larger game but an entirely different *kind* of game. The best way I can put it is like the difference between living in a town in the country vs. a small city. A city not only offers larger scale activities, like malls and multiplex theatres, but it allows less popular niche interests to thrive and become viable subcommunities in their own right. Instead of a handful of
Magic: The Gathering or other CCG players who all have each other's decks memorized, for example, you have hundreds with leagues and several places to go buy boosters. Working "house bands" playing the clubs rather than garage bands playing the prom, and so on.
