A new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Dev Diary has been posted at RPGVault tonight. Designer Lukas Kristjanson talks about named an unique weapons there:
It is not only possible, it is highly likely that unique weapons and other items have been produced and then forgotten over the millennia. The variation could have stemmed from a little known species that knew the secrets of coaxing just a little more power out of their droids, or from the customizations of an ingenious bounty hunter who liked his targets to die quick (but wasn't quite so good with jet-packs). Equipment in the Star Wars setting has always been represented as very personal and distinctive, like crankily unreliable getaway ships, or the lightsaber of a Jedi who has just completed training.
