Here are some tidbits about a number of totally free MMOGs that I check in on from time-to-time. By 'totally free' I mean a game that is free to download and has no subscription fees of any kind. Many of these games have other means of generating income, such as in-game ads or charging users for in-game items or services.

Conquer Online announced a new advertising program this week, where companies can pay for linkable ad space of the login screens of specific servers. In the announcement, it is mentioned that Conquer Online has over 300,000 active players, with a peak concurrency of 25,000, and more than 3,000,000 registered accounts. Also, in an effort to spread word about the ad program, for a limited time, players can run their own ads for free. Finally, a new patch this week gives players the option to bypass patching and continue playing the game if they have problems connecting to the patch server. Naturally, players are encouraged to patch their clients whenever doing so is possible.

Flyff GM Chris will soon be the subject of the next podcast on IStillPlayGames. The show's host, sega, is currently accepting questions and submitters whose questions are used in the show will win in-game cash and goodies. It appears that the game's most recent patch introduced a fair amount of lag and disconnects, which will supposedly be fixed by next week.

So, Knight Online is now offering limited pricing on their Bronze Premium package, the only problem being that I have no @#$%^&* idea what that 'Bronze Premium' is, and there's no indication of when this limited offer is up. There is no mention of such a thing ANYWHERE on the official site, and the forums have been no help. Is it a subscription plan? The web site's plastered with "Free2Play" and the account creation process never asks for billing info. Oh yes, I actually created an account there to find out what all this business was about. I should say "attempted to create an account" because the activation key they sent me didn't work. Maybe because I don't have Bronze Premium I guess?

The sickeningly cute Monster & Me will be introducing a new quest next week where players will have a chance to obtain a new kind of creature. Also, players who take advantage of the game's Refer-a-Friend program will be entered into a drawing to receive the disgustingly cuddly Bronybear as their reward.

Hacking and scamming are apparently so rampant in Oz Online that they've had to post a new policy outlining player responsibilities and the circumstances under which GMs will restore lost items. Seriously folks, why would anyone bother scamming other players in a game where all you can do is flirt and fish? In happier news, the game is currently recruiting players to act as DJs for the in-game radio station. DJs use SHOUTcast to stream audio content into the game.

Project Entropia has performed a visual overhaul of their official site. It now looks a bit more professional and takes four times longer to load. They've still got that unflattering picture of Sayah King on the front page. Believe me, you haven't seen her until you've watched the Project Entropia presentation. (Remember though, four times longer to load.)

The lovely, imperfect Silkroad Online is in its final beta phase now. Anyone can sign up to play now, and their characters will not be wiped when the game goes 'gold.' One wonders what the difference between beta and gold will be, considering that the English language version of the game will be free to play anyway. Also, the game will be adding a new server tomorrow, which will hopefully alleviate the current congestion issues. I doubt you'll be able to get around the town square any easier, though. If you don't know what I'm talking about, believe me you don't want to know.

Thang Online is currently recruiting high-level players to act as in-game 'guardians.' A guardian is a player who gets some of the responsibility of a GM but none of the pay. They're accepting applications until December 8. Also, this week's patch is kind of a downer because basically all it does is end the Thanksgiving and Increased Experience events.

That's it for this week, kids. Now I've got to get back to work!
