Funcom has launched the 'Alien Invasion' expansion for 'Anarchy Online', although player controlled shops have been removed at the last minute. Here's the news from the official site:
Funcom is launching Anarchy Online - Alien Invasion today. We therefore expect several hours of downtime. Those of you who has retail boxes can now install from the CDs. As soon as the servers are up again you will be able to log in and use Alien Invasion. We expect quite some size on the patches today, especially for existing players who do not have Alien Invasion. Due to possible issues with exploits and malfunctions, we have also chosen to remove player controlled shops from the initial release of Alien Invasion.

The reason why we have decided to pull the feature on launchday is that we saw it wasn't working perfectly. With this feature it's your hard earned items and money which is at risk. Seeing that certain issues could have arisen with the shop system (including loosing items and money), we felt it was better for everyone to not include the feature at launch. Our alternative was to postpone the entire launch altogether.

We ask for understanding on potential technical issues arising in regards to launchday. We are doing our very best to ensure a smooth and stable launch.

Best regards The Anarchy Online team
