Gamepen has a preview of Warlords Battlecry 2 at their site. Together with some screenshots, they tell you about their hands-on impressions they had:

What the game does with the campaign is very intriguing – you are one of twelve different races on a map of 68 territories. You create an avatar, and then set out to conquer the other 67 territories one at a time. As you go on, your hero increases in level, while choosing a class to belong to when reaching second level. Each conquered territory gives you an additional income in gold crowns, and has an additional specific benefit, like increasing the archery skill of your armies, or awarding you a special unit like Kobold Snipers or Halberdiers for your army to incorporate into its ranks. As the game progresses, the hero gains artifacts to wear (paper-doll style) and special units that can be stored in the retinue; these special units are either given as, say, a quest reward, or are simply an evolved “normal” unit that gains a name and can be saved for later and can gain levels themselves. Later in the campaign, other territories actually start to fear you, bribing you with units and gold, or simply surrendering. Steve Fawkner at SSG says they might even bribe you with dragons to put in your army to leave them alone!
