Anarchy Online: 7/10 points |
I really did love the potential in the game. It was moy first MMORPG... but like all MMORPG to date it got stale. Run to spawn, camp, level leve level, run to mission, mission, money money money...
|
Arcanum - Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura: 8/10 points |
I love how every little thing has some minor effect on the world. The replay value is frighteningly high, as there are about 6 ways to get through the game. I loved it. The graphics were a little weak and the overland travel got tedious.... but the game shone in depth. |
Baldur's Gate - Dark Alliance: 5/10 points |
I didn't see this one as anything more than a Gauntlet clone. Fun for an afternoon... |
Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 9/10 points |
BG1 had potential diminished by lackluster pacing. BG2 met and exceeded that potential in every imaginable way. Solid all around. |
Baldur's Gate 2 - Throne of Bhaal: 9/10 points |
Very nice wrap up to the story indeed. Some epic battles, some comic moments. No complaints here.
|
Bloodnet: 8/10 points |
I really liked this game. Damned hard, though. I got stuck... |
Curse Of The Azure Bonds: 8/10 points |
I liked this one more than Pools of Radiance. Stronger story, funner dungeons, more 'tight' area (ie not as much useless map wandering). This was back when a sequel was expected to be BETTER than its predecessor...
|
Dark Sun 1 - Shattered Lands: 8/10 points |
I loved this game. I loved the setting, the story (heh... I'd say they swiped the story from Gladiator, except that Dark Sun was out nearly a decade before the movie), the dungeons. Not for everyone... but definately for me. |
Deus Ex: 8/10 points |
Very nice. The first FPS I ever completed because of the roleplay elements involved. Nice story, multiple endings, and cool cybertech gear... the closest thing to a Shadowrun RPG yet (and probably ever).
No, the super-nintendo shadowrun did NOT count. |
Diablo 2: 7/10 points |
It was better than Diablo 1, and provided a nice escape from hours of boredom when I allowed myself to get caught up in the level/item find madness on Battlenet.
I liked the underlying story and loved the cutscenes... but this was no RPG. |
Elder Scrolls 2 - Daggerfall: 6/10 points |
So much potential, so many bugs and boring combat... please MOrrowind... please don't be as dull in combat.... |
Fallout - A Post Nuclear Adventure: 10/10 points |
It was a little short, which is why FO2 was better in my opinion. Even short, though, it was a great game.
|
Fallout 2: 9/10 points |
Although not much different than Fallout 1, Fallout 2 had a better story in my opinion... and was loads of fun. It's still on my hard drive after all this time. Bring on FO3. |
Freedom Force: 9/10 points |
Read my review for my opinion. :) No, it was not an RPG... but it was a blast. Multiplayer definately needs work in order to be worthy of the hard work people are putting into making customized skins for their favorite hero. |
Gothic: 9/10 points |
Although incredibly linear, Gothic had something about it that draws you in. Perhaps it was the simplicity of its action-oriented combat. Perhaps it was the fact that all characters were voiced. Whatever it was, it was a great RPG.
|
Menzoberranzan: 5/10 points |
This one didn't grab me at all. No dual scimitar wielding dark elf could change that. :) I found the sound to be poor and the graphics to be somehow inferior to the eye of the beholder series, which was older.
|
Neverwinter Nights: 9/10 points |
My review here sums up my thoughts on it. It doesn't bring anything new, no... besides a good implementation of the 3e ruleset. But not everything needs to be innovative and shiny new. |
Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide: 8/10 points |
It was an unfortunate mirror of the OC, true... however with less map space to run all over it was far less annoying. If I was to rate the module by itself I'd probably give it a 6 or 7 out of 10... but the Neverwinter engine is strong enough to float the game up some, especially with the new items, options, feats, and classes able to be used in multiplayer. |
Planescape: Torment: 10/10 points |
A real sleeper hit. So much character depth and story that I was honestly upset when the game ended. I wanted more. A sure sign of a great RPG. |
Pool of Radiance: 7/10 points |
The first, and still fun to play (if you can get it to run). Didn't like the journal entries... but loved the feeling of hitting level 5 and getting fireball and showing those damned endless waves of Kobolds who was boss.... |
Pool of Radiance - Ruins of Myth Drannor: 3/10 points |
SO much brown... so much brown... so slow, so slow...
and the computer cheats with the dice rolls.
I wanted to love this game... I really, really did... |
The Temple of Elemental Evil - A Classic Greyhawk Adventure: 9/10 points |
Definitely needs a patch but unless you're suffering continuous CTDs (I didn't) the broken math and item creation doesn't detract too much from the gameplay. If you don't like turn-based you never EVER should have bought this game. It was its biggest selling point. |
Ultima 7 - The Black Gate: 9/10 points |
This game was so good that I learned how to become a computer technician to get it to run on my 386. And completed the game at like 5 FPS. |
Wizardry 7 - Crusader of the Dark Savant: 7/10 points |
I liked Bane of the Cosmic Forge better... I got lost in Crusaders. |
