Fantastic. Not flawless yet (there isn't a MMORPG that is), but this offers things that no other can, as well as the largest setting of any game, period!!! Fantastic graphics, incredible musical scores, extremely flexible system and user interface. CCP refers to it as "Sci-Fi Capitalsim on Steroids" and they are right. Has an incredible market and economy that is player driven (like a few of the more recent MMORPG's, but much more depth to it). Also the game is designed so that all players (tens of thousands simultaneously) are on the same server, thus their ability to create a truely vibrant economy. Includes a system for R&D (all new equipment will be player developed through research and engineering improvements).
Turely incredible! However be warned that with the intense graphics, you need a fairly high end system with high end graphics cards.
One of the comments says that combat is slow. This is NOT a First Person Shooter, it is inteded as an epic sci-fi game where econmic power is as important as military power (sometimes more-so). |

This game has been stalling for almost 6 months. It's beautiful, and graphically stunning, but the boring tasks and the lack of good pvp makes the game a drag. Most players who have been playing since lanch are quitting. The company has not really added much content since launch in May. And made many promises which were never kept. Stay away from eve for a while until they figure out what they are doing. They put the power of the game into teh players hands, then tie thier hands as far as pvp goes. The market doesn't work right, and it costs too much to build ships to fight wiith. If you were mining on your own, it would take you a month to build a ship, and thats IF you are mining and hauling 2-5 hours a day, just to rebuild your ship after a short 1 minute PVP battle. There are many many problems which cripple this game and make is boring. I wouldn't suggest playing this game for another 6 months. BEcause then when they will finally add new player owned things, like space stations. that's IF they stay on track. They promised new things ever other month or so, it's now at 6 months and nothing new yet. Sorry to burst everyones bubble. Anyone who posted only happy things here is either blind or in a bubble. |

The basic foundations of the game have shifted several times since EVE's release leading to a change in the fundamental experiance of play. For example when I started it was easy to get a high personal security rating and Pirates experianced a golden era of destruction and freedom when they were able to cause mayhem on the space lanes by preying on the weak and vulnerable. In one swift stroke the rules of the game were changed, the long arm of the law suddenly bacame far more agressive, sentry guns were placed at jump gates preventing pirate travel and it became much more difficult to get a positive security rating. Pirates found themselves unwelcome in Empire space and were forced into the lawless regions of the universe. Players who had been killing pirates to gain a high security level and so stay one step ahead of the law suddenly found themselves being hounded by the police when they prayed on the weak.
Then there was the whole issue of valuable ore. At the beginning you could find rare and highly sought after ore just about anywhere and people made vast sums of money in a very short time. Again in one short stroke all the rare ore was moved outside of empire space and into the more dangerous regions. There was uproar as players lost there easy ride to the top and more from the players who hadn't even had a chance to mine them yet. Suddenly you had a group of super rich players who had "Got there first" while everyone else was doomed to forever play catch up.
All these sudden changes made a lot of players angry and sadly many decided to leave as a result. What they should be aware of is that the game as it is now is how it should have been at launch. It was the people who joined first that had to discover the faults in the game, uncover the exploits and expose the cheats. CCP has been fixing them since creating a much better universe for players to live in. If anything new players will have a much better time of it than I did when I first started. They won't be shot at in empire controlled space while the police do nothing. They will gradually work there way up through the game instead of advancing in leaps and bounds and missing out on half the fun. And lastly they will be able to hear veteran players tell tales of yaw about the time the great Moo pirate corporation struck fear into the hearts of all by blockading jump gates and killing anyone one who came through. They will bore them with tales of a time when Hebdergite and Gnesis were only 2 jumps away and noobies could make millions before the day was half done.
EVE is a great game and is getting better as time goes by. |

As far as Pigs go, this one follows the same dam pattern of promising the world and placing false advertising on the box about features"Soon"tm to be installed. Having played since the end of May, I have enjoyed the game to a point, then there is nothing left to do besides the same boring stuff.
Since this is a mining simulation, it has been broken 4 months out of 7. What I mean is that all the highend valuable ore has been mined out and nothing respawns to replenish the supply. Yes, one can find usuable ore 2 hours in real life travel time to find it. However most people have lives besides playing 23/7 and dont like having their house smell like cat piss. As far as anyone knows, Asteriod belts are suppose to respawn otherwise the game space would be allot bigger to allow for exploration and settlement.
I would say the market is a very nice part of the game play and you can sell some items using the in game market functions. Like most PIGS, it was designed half-ass and all the good stuff(named loot or blueprint copies) you cannot sell using this great ingame feature.
Like all pigs(MMORGS), you are playing them to beta TEST THEIR SOFTWARE. The game is real fun until you get your first battleship in 2 months of playing, then you hit a brick wall with bugs, stuck systems, broken pvp, infliation in the market, bored killing the same npcs, and wishing there was more content besides smack talking on the forums or doing 400 agent missions.
Character development is a real plus for this game and I like it allot.
I would wait until this game is atleast a year out and player stations are in the game before I would buy it again. Then I would recommend buying an account that someone has trained to 7 mil experience points or you will be wayyy behind those who stuck it out during the Real BEta Phase.
Yes, this game kicks ass in graphics but graphics can only take you so far, like the first month in a new relationship. Most of us are tired of the same bullcrap coming from a developer promising the world and who are then shown he is no freaking clue what is going on in his own game. Kind makes ya wonder who the hell you are waking up with after the beer buzz kind of feeling.
I give 5 for potential because nothing else out there makes me want to try it. |

This is true online play, not just an upgrade of bots/the cpu with ability to "chat" as it is in nearly every other game.
Economy is incredible, Politics are SO dynamic and ever changing (For example, a band of Renegades, the Curse alliance, were attacked by ever other major alliance in the game, and has slowley beaten them back one by one, as each enemy is forced to agree to peace for economic reasons as pilot after pilot ejects and runs before curses mighty warfleet)
The interaction between Pirates, Bounty Hunters, Mercs etc is incredible, and unlike, say SWG, these roles are defined not by some skills tables and pre defined rules, but by the players themselves (I for instance am a reformed-Pirate fleet Admiral, who now directs vast numbers of brave pilots into war against our foes)
If your in for the long haul, this is the game for you. Might be worth buying an account on ebay tho if you want to get stuck in, but I suggest you get a middling one and work your way up, since that is more fun. |

This game started slowly and improving greatly (no game improving as fast as players wants). If eve could give some benefits (like some free weeks) for the players that helped it by subscribing in the firsts months, that would be really cool :). This game is still young and have a lot more to show off !!
The opinion of a MMO players that have an idea of "what is to be a programmer". |

I've been playing Eve for just under 4months now, I personally love it, the thing you must realize though is these few things. The beginning is exceedingly tedious and takes forever to do anything, but after you get skills up, have some ISK (Eve Money) and have contacts in corps it's lots of fun, it just takes awhile to get there.
There ARE lots of bugs, but they're getting fixed more and more, and less and less things dont work right, the upcomming Techlevel 2 patch is bringing back alot of the players that left. some jobs are more fun then others, PvP is more fun then mining and hauling, but all 3 are crutial to the Eve economy. and as some others have mentiond "pvp is point and click" that is ENTIRELY NOT TRUE, it takes much more skill then anyone seems to realize, Battleship fights take tactics and skill to win, not just lock and let guns rip (unless you're using 3 specific ships), This is a good game, and needs more people, this game relies heavily on player interactions, if you dont like people, or interacting with people, dont play eve. it's not for you. most people stop playing within the 1st week or 1st month of play, if you stick with it for 2months or more, you're skills are high enough that you can acually do something fun (pvp), another dynamic aspect of Eve is player Alliances, this is not even a game feature, and is ENTIRELY Player run and drivin, in eve there are 0.0 security systems with no cops so anyone can do anything, there are around 4-6 major alliances that have claimed somed of this 0.0 space as their own and fight to protect it, they also wage war on other alliances, have formal Non-aggrestion pacts, Pacts, and Political press's, a PR machine, and so on, and are also run outside of the game. This is the most dynamic game ive ever encounterd, but if you want a quick action fix, the games not for you, this takes time and dedication, the lazy get nothing.

Eve is an ok game, but not for everyone.
I thoroughly disagree with Pangolin that people who like it are 12-year olds with long attention spans (there are not too many of those, anyway ;-) )
Rather, I think that this game is well suited for older players: The learning curve is quite steep, there is no such thing as "instant gratification", and the game is harsh: having your ship destroyed or even being killed can be a major setback- sometimes forcing you to pick up the pieces, and start over from where you were a month ago.
It has proven to be hard to balance this game, however, and, despite the fact that your skills keep training while you are offline, you need to spend a LOT of online time to sort of "keep up with the Jones's" (which will make the game a lot more fun)
If the developers will succeed in archieving good game balance, Eve will become a great game. At the moment, playing it is fun for me, but the real exhilaration from late beta and early release has well gone... it's an ok game, as I said. |

its a very fine made game, phantastic graphics thanks to the very good designer(s). though the game itself is a bit slower then the normal hack&slay&level ones, so be prepared. bring a lot of time, patience and will for teamplay to enjoy this masterpiece. Space is not ground. Much more things are automated, but you have still more than enough stuff to do, to click and to manage.
if you are a solo player i personaly wouldnt buy it. you can do alot solo, but you end in the same spot all the time: your little piece of space, with the same things happening again and again. short: boredom.
if you dont like loosing stuff forever (except for your ship and your character you can buy insurances) thing again.
if you like npc hunting and doing funny quests that bring you through interesting places... wait some more months *g*
but overall... if you liked the elite series... go ahead and buy it. if you like privateer or wing commander prepare yourself for a slower gameplay.
enough. bye |

Have been playing Eve with multiple chars for about 4 months now. By far it offers the best overall MMO experience to date (I have played UO, AO, EnB and Everquest in my time). It is truely open ended. And whilst there are faults (hence the 9 and not 10 rating). These do not detract from what is an imense experience. You do however need to invest real effort in making "EVE the experince" work, so if you want something less taxing look elsewhere (The Sims Online perhaps :-) ). |
