Here's a taste:Not only is the massively multiplayer environment starting to fill up with some serious names (Blizzard, Sigil Games, LucasArts, NCSoft), but we're also seeing some stratification of ambition. Not everyone is going for the pot of gold at the rainbow, fortunately, and many groups are willing to cater to a long-term, dedicated fanbase that might be smaller, rather than being everything to everyone and therefore not really appealing to anyone in particular. Enter developer Nevrax, founded four years ago in Paris, currently employing abour 55 people and putting millions of dollars on the line for an MMO that's been mostly under the radar, until now. Saga of Ryzom, in open beta as I write this (and available at FilePlanet and is scheduled to ship in late June, so there isn't much time to get people up and running. We got a peek at the game today, however, and it looks pretty solid. This is no low-budget endeavor. |
