CGO has posted a review of 3DO's Heroes of Might & Magic 4 Expansion The Gathering Storm. The reviewer rates the game with 75% coming to this conclusion:
First of all I'm trying to find the reasons to consider The Gathering Storm an add-on. They say it is. I'm still thinking. If I look at the 6 single-player campaigns then I must admit this will keep you a few long hours in front of your computer. A wizard named Hexis woke up one morning tormented by a nice thirst of power and due to the control he had over Nature many cataclisms, catastrophes or any other kind of natural-artificially-induced desasters started to threat the people of Lodwar. Five heroes start searching some artifacts whose combined power would defeat Hexis and reestablish order and peace throughout the land. If it's still not enough you can add 21 more scenarios, 18 for single-player and 3 for multiplayer. Well, I was never happy just because of the quantity. What about quality, mon cher? No offence but 7 locations, 16 artifacts and 4 creatures that you cannot play with in single-player campaigns (unless they join you army) don't seem to me a great deal of major modifications to the gameplay. Fortunately the 4 creatures are included in the editor but any map no matter how small, big, simple or complex but created with the add-on will will ask for it in order to be played. On the other hand the seven locations are in fact 2 or else 5 times Conservatory (one for Chaos, Death, Nature, Life and Order) and 2 times Coliseum. Form the first type you can buy parchments with a spell of the respective order and at the second one you fight a number of dragons corresponding to your level (Black Dragons for Might and Faerie Dragons for Magic). If your hero dies during battle he turns to a tombstone and must be resurrected at a sanctuary or a town and if he wins he gains a level.
