The next site to trot out a GDC preview of Jade Empire is Xbox.IGN:We can't help but compare most of what we've seen of Jade Empire with what we all remember from Knights of the Old Republic because both games share the same engine, but there are significant improvements in both the control and overall feel of JE. The camera system can be freely manipulated using the right analog stick, but it stays in place once you're done moving it and will attempt to stick and return to that angle as the fight or onscreen action forces it to drift and adjust slightly. This is an important achievement because Jade Empire ups the ante on the action by allowing the main character to move around the environment very quickly when locked onto an enemy and you'll even be able to leap over them and launch attacks in one fluid move. A camera that can follow this faster paced action is absolutely necessary but having the option to move the camera the way you want to see what you need to see is also important. But the truth is, the sophistication of the camera angle is really designed to show off the enhanced, bad-assed combat system. |
