Our good friends from YiYa have posted a rather lukewarm review of Deux Ex - Invisble War, rating it with a 3+ dep on the German school system, which translates to about 70%. They have a great comparison table between part 1 and 2, and their main criticism are the strong simplifications - I translate their conclusion for you:Many aspects have been simplified drastically, e.g. you can't lean around a corner anymore or the fact, that only one type of ammunition is available anymore or the lack of skills. The story is complex, but not very immersive becaue of its freedom or openness. Crashes and at times low frame rates further decrease the fun rating. The game is rather for beginners, but they should know the story of the predecessor to be able to follow the story. I think that is the main problem of DX2, brought down to a single statement: Players of part 1 will be disappointed because of the loss of complexitiy and the loss of the RPG System. Ion Storm should have announced these aspects beforehand and told players, DX2 will be an action adventure anymore without a complex RPG system around it. Or simply publish it under a different brand, like DX Adventures or some like that... |
