A review of Ultima Online: Lord Blacktorn's Revenge showed up yesterday at Gamespy. They've given it a lukewarm score of 70 and here's a snippet:The game is still one of the less combat-friendly MMORPGs around. It's simply a pain to fight most battles, especially in a crowd. However, UO:LBR isn't all about combat, as you gain skill experience doing almost anything. If what you want is a hack-and-slash game, this one isn't for you. Sure there are plenty of opportunities to battle, and if you choose to risk your character in player vs. player duels, you can do so. Still, UO:LBR remains a game that is best played with friends -- a group of people who want to adventure across the land, making their own rules as they go, and generally creating their own personas and history. It wins hands down as the MMORPG best suited to TRUE role-playing. If you don't want that kind of experience, however, you'll be disappointed with combat (as well as most other things in the game). |
