Back in the day it was another poor ripoff of Ultima 3. I remember playing this on my Apple //c and the disappointment at how crude it was. The Fallouts did a much better job of capturing the theme. |

No game is perfect, but this one comes as close as possible. I was re-playing this game well into the mid-nineties. It shaped a generation of role-players and spawned the Fallout franchise. A literal remake of Wasteland with updated graphics and sound would be a best-seller.

Though it's quite old now, for it's time Wasteland offered and world that no one else could beat. It had atmosphere, humor, great balance and was very fun to play. |

Quite possibly the best computer role-playing game, ever. This game, combining the mechanics of Tunnels & Trolls with the skill system of Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes, launched the post-nuclear war genre of CRPGs and single-handedly ruined my junior year of high school. Multiple players each with their own unique attributes and skills, quirky non-player character recruits, maniacal robots, and supplemental hard-copy materials with a sense of humor make this game simply amazing. Put in its proper perspective, there were few that could touch this title. Is among the few that could not (within reason) have been much better (for its time). Maybe a little difficult without the hint guide, but even that was well done. I read the guide a couple of times just to experience the story again. |

Wasteland is the best CRPG I've ever played. There are lots of new games with much nicer graphics and bigger worlds, but I never go back to them like I do with Wasteland. It's strange, but I just played Wasteland again and it's still great fun after all these years!
I can honestly say there are no other CRPGs that I've returned to replay again and again after completing them. |

Wasteland and it's successor "Fountain of Dreams"
are IMHO two of the best designed, written and programmed games ever.
This is the DEFINITIVE post-apocalyptic nuclear holocaust type RPGs.
Fallout and it's offspring were inspired by Wasteland.
Everyone, I mean EVERYONE who is able to appreciate a good RPG most definately should actively seek out a copy of wasteland and play it from start to finish.
Good graphics, great interface, compelling storyline. Used the Journal style of old to expand the storyline (e.g. read Journal entry #35)
Printed and well documented manuals were almost as rare back then and almost non-existent today.

my second favorite RPG of all time (yes fallout 2 beat Wasteland - becuase fo variety and sotry). Wastelnd had a pseudo-non-linear plot... multiple solutions to puzzles/situations and a great character development system. i have played it countless times. the only negative? too much random encounters and too much XP based on combat. if it wasn't for that it would have gotten a 10 |

While it shows it's age in terms of design no-nos that might make people who are used to more modern games cringe, Wasteland does excel in many areas such as skill triggers. Use attributes and skills on most anything? Tell me that's not cool. |

I only just played this game recently so don't have nostalgia affecting my review. It hasn't aged well, and fighting wandering robots became tedious very quickly, but I can see it had some good points for it's time. Didn't have the patience to finish without extensively referring to a walkthrough though. |

This is really the best RPG I have ever played, on any system. It has the best character development system of all time, a fantastic story and an unbeatable atmosphere. Oh, how I wish some huge company would buy the rights to this game and remake it with todays technology and graphics. That is my dream. |
