Jagex, makers of Java-based MMORPG RuneScape, issued a press release release to announce they've passed 50,000 subscribers. Here's the relevant bits:'This is a fantastic milestone to pass' says Managing Director Constant Tedder, 'I am so proud of the whole team's efforts this year to take us to this level. We believe we have a long way to go and the new version of RuneScape, going Beta on December the 1st, will surprise a few people.'
RuneScape was first launched in January 2001 as a free game. A subscription based members version was launched in February 2002 instantly attracting 5000 subscribers. Since that time subscriber growth has been steady and entirely organic.
RuneScape today has over 660,000 active free players making it one of the largest online games in the world. Its subscriber base continues to grow steadily. For more information, check out their website. |
