All right...time to rev up the old web browser...and cruise on over to the Adrenaline Vault and check out their May 2004 "Review WrapUp"...both Beyond Divinity and WarLords Battlecry III ended up with identical scores of 3 and a half out of 5 stars...
Overall Thoughts: As if to prove the old adage that the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts, I’m compelled to give Beyond Divinity a higher overall score than was awarded almost all of its component criterion. My conundrum is that despite the issues and glaring oversights, Beyond Divinity is still fun to play. Directly off the shelf, it stands in raw form, needing a massive polishing and a furious spit shine. There have been several patches since its release that have endeavored to do just that, and while some of the more egregious issues have been addressed, there’s a lot of work left to do. Beyond Divinity is still a great hack-and-slash adventure despite its shortcomings, and if the polishing had been done before its release, it would deserve a much higher score than it has here. If you can get past the pitfalls, Beyond Divinity has a lot to offer.
