A new entry in the developer diary at the official Dragon Empires site has been published today. It is about Animation and motion capture, written by Colin Smyth:
You may have read in a previous dev diary that we went up to London a short time ago to motion capture all the character movements that we needed for the game. The animation team are currently cleaning up this data and applying the moves to our in game characters and some of the monsters. For those of you that haven’t heard of motion capture before, it’s basically a process that films/games companies use to capture the movements and actions of an actor as a three-dimensional computer model, which can then be applied to 3d characters. The process has received lots of publicity lately following the success of digital characters like Gollum, and The Hulk, in which motion capture played a huge part in bringing the characters to life.
