Earth & Beyond - another glimpse inside

The latest Glimpse Inside at the official site for Earth and Byond talks about how they implemented planets into their futuristic MMORPG. Very interesting stuff, as you see how much thoughts went into this. They have some nice shots with the article, too, and here's a short snippit from the lenghty update:

One aspect that has been altered in Earth and Beyond is the distance between objects. In order to lessen the tedium of travel, the game designers measure distance in actual in-game travel time, rather than real-life measurements. In this instance, scientific accuracy has been sacrificed in favor of gameplay. And because most of the long-distance travel in Earth and Beyond will take place by the use of stargates, actual distances are often a moot point anyway.
Addendum: One of our readers informed us that it isn't new - it's the one from last week. However, we missed that one then, so we'll keep it in our news database, of course. Thanks for the correction, Spleen :-)
