far too confusing. Once you die, it's over. |

Great depth, better than most CRPGs. Infinite replayability, so dying often doesn't really matter that much. Steep learning curve, but definitely worth the effort. Lack of graphics shouldn't bother people with imagination. Remember that? Imagination? :) |

Never finished it, but tried over and over and over... played this after years of Nethack, and appreciated the superior storyline and diversity of dungeons... Yes, I appreciate the graphically superior games, but if you ever have to go on a long trip with an old laptop, this is the game for you. |

This is by far the best Rogue-like game I have ever played and, indeed, the best RPG. The sheer amount of detail put into this game is monstrous, if it is replayability that makes or breaks a game for you. There are forty or so classes to choose, twelve or so races, and in the newest incarnation, there are talents (sort of like feats). There are hundreds of monsters and hundreds more items, many many NPC's, there are quests galore, alternate endings, plot branches, you name it. The graphics are really cool too, I know, ASCII isn't exactly the prettiest, but Mr. Biskup certainly put it all to great use, everything is very easily identifiable, the controls are many but very simple and easy to learn, the inventory and shop systems are my favorite of any game, at all. I'll admit, the newer inventory and shop systems such as you'll find in Neverwinternights or Baldur's Gate 2 are very cool too but ADOM's, ah. :) In fact, I really can't think of anything wrong with ADOM. Yes, it is hard at first, I remember starving quite a few times and losing characters to giant ants and a rogue vortex or two but the point is, you only get better with time and it gets more and more fun the farther in you go. Definitely worth a try, hey, it's free. :) |

A wonderful game that holds its place. Most experienced players seem to have solved all the secrets, but even they are surprised now and then. And the ones who just find this game... They'll be playing this for years! |
