I have played AO for over 3 years, after leaving EQ. I left EQ because of the horrible faction and camping problems. I was delighted with AO, but now, with Shadowlands, AO has become EQ with guns. Although SL is great eye candy, that hardly makes up for the sheer tedium that has been designed into Shadowlands. One wonders if FunCom recruited the worst EQ game designers to create this disaster. Sadly, the flaws are so entrenched in the design, it is doubtful that Shadowlands will ever be playable and fun. |

If you play AO already, no doubt you already know whether you're going to upgrade to Shadowlands or not, and you can get more opinions in the game than I could give you. However, if you have never played AO, I can recommend it heartily; after all, to a new player the whole thing is new, Rubi-Ka and the Shadowlands both, and if you don't like the new additions you could easily spend years in the old world, which is still fairly lively (populated by people who don't like the new expansion, of which there are many). Anarchy Online is a must-have for anyone who enjoys tinkering with their character's stats. This game has more stats and skills to tinker than all the competition combined. Instead of one set of wear locations you have three: one set for armor, one set for weapons and devices, and one set for cyborg implants, should you choose to go that route (and every character can). Just designing and constructing a partial set of implants is more complex than most other games character development process altogether. This game can be played simply, by making some big bruiser, wearing whatever armor you can find/buy, and hacking monsters with a sword, but it really shines when playing a class distinctive to it, a technical class like the Engineer, a stealth class like the Agent, or a tricked-out cyborged Soldier. |

I've only been playing a week, but after playing Asheron's Call for 3 years and Earth and Beyond for a year, I must say this game blew me away. The graphics and sound are great, while not groundbreaking. However, the community surprised me the most. For a mature mmorpg, this community is still extremly friendly and helpful, unlike some of the games I have examined recently. I enjoyed the trail so much I decided to end my subscription to another mmorpg and switch to AO immediately. I hope that the excitement continues through 200 levels :)

Since the release of Shadowlands, AO has become one of the most amazing games I have seen. The SL expansion has provided the much needed expansion on levels, classes and skills. Since the release of SL it has taken months for players to reach the final level of 220, and even then there is much more to explore. Although there has been some resistance to the Shadowlands expansion it has proven to be one of the greatest expansions in MMORPG history and, one of the most successfull. I give Shadowlands two thumbs up! and I cant wait till the release of Alien Invasion. |

I've been playing AO for nearly 2 years and I can safely and honestly say, taht after trying 90% of the other MMO's out there, AO blows them all our of the water.
The Shadowlands were very controversial, and have changed the game a lot, and not always for the better. No one can deny that the Shadowlands are ABSOLUTLY GORGEOUS in appearence (some very impressive eye candy to find, especially in Elysium and Adonis), and SL has added a lot to AO. The only game-stopping problem it has at the moment is that the only viable way to level nowadays is on mobs called "Hecklers". These things are found in certain areas in SL, and are often camped by many teams all trying to kill these rock-monsters (similar to golems found in other games), because they give insane XP.
The heckler problem aside (Which I hope FC will pull their finger out and give RK missions the XP they deserve again), AO is still without a doubt the most impressive, vastly improved, huge and downright bloody awesome MMO out there. The community alone blows the other MMO's out of the water. I have found about 4 people that I didn't like in 2 years. And trust me, a lot of people play this game ;)
TRY IT! You'll love it!
