Matrix Vault has posted a Q&A with Toby Ragaini about 'The Matrix Online':
[MatrixGate] How difficult has it been to stay faithful to the spirit of the original material whilst creating MxO?

[Toby Ragaini] The Matrix was an eye-opening experience for many moviegoers and we knew the expectations for MxO would be high.

Fortunately, we’ve been able to work directly with many of the production crew from the movies. Art director Owen Patterson insured that our palette and architecture were consistent with the movies. Dane Tracks gave us access to the sound effects used in the films, and Don Davis is composing original tracks based on the score.

In addition, the Wachowski Brothers and Paul Chadwick have written a year’s worth of plot line that will be revealed as players progress through the game.

Put simply, there’s no design decision that hasn’t been shaped by the Matrix’s themes and production values.
