The award for the first 'Lineage II: The Chaotic Chronicle' review goes to UGO. The prose is positive and the score is 'A'; here's an excerpt:Before we get into the actual gameplay details, let's spell out what's in store. Lineage 2 is a MMORPG with an emphasis on Player versus Player (PvP) combat, conflicts between large armies, and sieges. The nature of the game, along with its very strong community, is reminiscent of the text based PvP MUDS, MOOs and Mushes of yesteryear. When you log on for the first time, you can kill or be killed. As such, many MMO-gamers looking for a happy-go-lucky hand holding experience may be sorely surprised when, after leaving town, they are waylaid by bandits. With the exception of harassment that goes a little too far, there is no GM to cry to if you get attacked and killed by a passerby. It is a player-driven world: players control the economy, players can own territory, and if a law needs to be issued, it is the players that do so. GMs are there for the occasional dose of excitement or if something technical happens (e.g. if you are stuck in a ditch and cannot get out... it can happen). Read it here. |
