RPG Vault checks in with Funcom's Gaute Godager to talk about the company's progress on their R E Howard-inspired title, Age of Conan. The interview also features four exclusive screenshots and an exclusive concept image.
Jonric: First of all, to introduce yourself to our readers, what you are doing on the Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures project, and how long you have been working on it?

Gaute Godager: Hello! My name is Gaute Godager. I am the Game Director of Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures. My job is to be in charge of the game's creative vision and direction. The Hyborian world - the dark, mysterious and brutal universe of Conan, for the people not knowing that - gripped my imagination more than 25 years ago, and you could say I have been letting it mull in my mind for all that time, envisioning how I (and others) could explore, adventure in and rule that universe. I have been working on this game for a bit over two years now.

Jonric: In overview, what kind of online world is Age of Conan, what kind of gamer do you feel it will attract and, what key features separate it from other titles in the same category?

Gaute Godager: Age of Conan (Conan from now on) is an online action RPG, and there are several exciting features that separate this game from any other RPG or massively multiplayer online game. We hope that it will be able to attract RPG players from PC and console, as well as all MMO players.

First of all, it is a mix of a single-player, story-driven RPG and a massively multiplayer online game. The first 20 levels of the game can be played alone, as a single-player, story-driven adventure. The last 60 levels take place in the larger Hyborian universe, where you can travel to three large countries called Stygia, Aquilonia and Cimmeria.
