The Core has an article that reviews the current state of Turbine/Microsoft's Asheron's Call. Here's a snip:Of the other features of AC, the most impressive one has got to be the sheer scale of the game world. Unlike most of the other games of this type, there are no zones - no invisible lines between servers that cause you to stop while the next section of terrain is loaded. That means that you can run from one end of the land mass to the other, without frequent pauses to load the next zone. It also means that critters can chase you all over the map. It also means that the view from the top of a mountain is simply amazing. There are no backdrop style horizons in AC - if you can see a landmark in the distance, you can go to it. If you can see a mountain in the haze on the horizon, you can climb it. You'll find the article here. |
