Gamespy has talked to Abbot Fenthick Moss about how to create adventures in Neverwinter Nights. Quite interesting, if you are into creating your own games and mods. Here's a part of the article, talking about situations:
Used wisely, tags also allow you to reuse your scripts across multiple situations, reducing the amount of effort you have to expend to bring your tale to life. For instance, you might have two towns, each with a tavern and a temple. They are different taverns and different temples, each located differently in the different towns. However, they share a similarity in that in each temple has been placed a secret marker with a tag that reads, quite simply, "Temple." In each tavern lies another secret marker, both of which read "Tavern." Now, in each town lives a sorry drunkard who, by day and evening and on through night, drank tankard upon tankard of the cheapest swill within the tavern. But with the crowing of the rooster and the coming of the dawn, he would leave his customary table and lurch towards the temple with airs of penitence. And thus each dawn the patient priest would take pity upon the drunkard and say "Go forth and sin no more" but, by noon, the drunkard had already returned to the tavern and was once again in his cups. |
