LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The U.S. arm of Japanese video game publisher Sega Corp. (7964.T) on Monday said it has struck a deal with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to co-publish an online game based on the "Matrix" movies.

Sega of America said it would manage distribution of the game, while WBIE will oversee its development and operations and the two will jointly handle marketing. The game is expected to be released this November.

A console video game based on the "Matrix" films, Atari Inc.'s (Nasdaq:ATAR - news) "Enter the Matrix," drew poor reviews from the gaming press but still sold millions of units.

When "Matrix Online," one of a class of titles known as massively multiplayer online games, was first announced, it was to be published by France's Ubi Soft Entertainment. (UBIP.PA) Ubi Soft dropped out of the project earlier this year.

"Matrix Online" is being developed with input from the Wachowski brothers, who wrote and directed the movies and oversaw the Atari game.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is a unit of Warner Bros., part of Time Warner.
