"Great Games you may have missed" is a series of editorials at Stratos Group - and this one deals with one of my favorites: Blade of Darkness (known as Severance - Blade of Darkness outside the US). Here's how they descirbe the technical aspects of the game, one of the highlights apart from the excellent combat:
Other than the size of the levels, there's a lot else other tech junkies can admire. Huge titles like Doom 3 are hyping their ultra-realistic lighting systems, when Blade of Darkness already successfully tackled the feat of realistic lighting two years ago. The physics and water effects were also well ahead of their time, though not quite as impressive. It didn't come without cost either, as the character models are pretty weak even for their time and the running/walking animations are more than a little goofy.
