Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows features something no Gauntlet game has tried yet: an actual detailed plot. With input from Josh Sawyer of Icewind Dale fame, the plot of Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows actually incorporates the four standard Gauntlet characters. Basically, the plat tells the story of a tyrannical emperor who managed to avoid the attempt of four great heroes to end his life. To play them back, the emperor had them crucified on a tree plated at the bottom of the Earth. This tree was to remain on fire for all time. A hundred or so years later, the power binding the heroes to the tree was suddenly and inexplicably dissipated, leaving the adventurers free to seek their vengeance. However, in a twist of fate, the heroes find themselves obligated to save the emperor who condemned them, as his fate is somehow connected to the very fate of the world.
