The 'Beyond Divinity' reviews are starting to trickle in with another critique now available at PlayXcess. It's a midly positive review, prasing the depth but finding it spread over too much length and with "stodgy" combat; score - 7/10:BD is the quasi-sequel to Larian’s sleeper-smash Divine Divinity from 2002. Whilst Divine Divinity had the second most inane and ridiculous title ever (the most inane title has to be Leisure Suit Larry 3: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals, from 1990), the sheer scale of the game, coupled with the Diablo-inspired action, garnered Divine Divinity critical acclaim. Larian is quick to emphasise that BD is not a direct sequel to Divine Divinity; more of an accompaniment in the same way that the film The Ewok Adventure accompanies the Star Wars films. Although The Ewok Adventure was as pleasurable to watch as your own family being savaged by rabid dogs. Whilst Divine Divinity captured the trend for the popular Diablo II, RPG gamers are renowned for expecting depth in their titles. And with Sacred fulfilling the needs of the ardent hack and slash RPG enthusiast, BD is going to need to pull quite the rabbit out of the hat of defence +2 to impress me. Not even beard jokes will suffice. | Source: Game Rankings |
