Star Wars: KotOR - Impressions @ Gone Gold

Gone Gold has included some impressions from BioWare's/LucasArts' single player RPG 'Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic' in its daily "Night Call".
I think my biggest mistake with this game was expecting to be blown away from the first second. The Xbox version received such incredibly high review scores that I expected to be overwhelmed, and that's not the kind of game that KOTOR is, at least not at first. For the first hour or so, I was disappointed. The opening mission, which serves as a tutorial, is very strange--there appears to be a sense of urgency, but the mission is designed to teach you the controls and interface, which is a more slowly-paced objective. It's a bad match. The movement controls seem kind of clunky--the world rotates around you if you change directions while running instead of your character turning. It's a small thing, but it feels quite odd. Some aspects of the interface seem somewhat obtuse.
