IGN.PC did a Q&A with members of the Dungeon Siege Art Team. As usual, here's an interesting bit for you:
IGNPC: What mediums do you work in during the early conceptual stages of the project? Do the same skills that apply in "traditional" media easily translate to the modeling software?
Joe Kresoja: I use Pens, pencils, markers, gouache, and lots of different types of paper. Traditional skills do translate but to what degree depends entirely on the person. For me it was a struggle, but I'm in the full swing of things now.
Darren Lamb: Sketches are done mainly in pencil unless the schedule permits more elaboration. Seeing things in 3-D always helps the transition from traditional media to modeling.
Dave Dunniway: Early on things start off with pencil sketches and quick Photoshop doodles. The skills applied in "traditional" media translate directly into the texture work... knowing how to shade, apply highlights and coloring.
Beware, the ad on that page tries to install Gator (Spyware!) on your PC, so click "no" when asked. |
