Gamespy has posted an interview with Rick Hall and Jon Hanna, two of the lead developers for EA's Ultima X: Odyssey. Here's part of the conversation:Fargo: So let's talk about that! You have what you called "Personal Quests," little adventures just for the player or a small party. Tell me more!
Hanna: The questing system really has three major components to it that I think sets it apart from everybody. One is that, when you get a quest, you get choices during the quest. Most games, they tell you the dragon had kidnapped the princess, you go kill the dragon, the same thing every time, and that's it. In our game, you talk to the dragon, you might find out why he did it, so then you have a choice! You can either bring him to justice by killing him, or you can feel compassion and try and solve whatever made him do this. And then he lets the princess go. And so again, it's kind of a single-player game in a lot of ways where you can make a choice. There's also a 104Mb movie with commentary from the interviewer at Fileplanet. |
