Mike Bracken, an editor at RPGFan, reviewed the game and seemed relatively pleased with the outcome, giving it a score of 91 out of 100. Still, the fact that I have a love/hate relationship with PSO and have spent over 800 hours with it (500 on the Dreamcast version and 300-and-counting on the GameCube release) has to say something about the enduring and addictive quality of the title. I'm continually amazed by how addictive the game can be, particularly when one considers how small it is in comparison to other online games like Sony's Everquest. Source: RPGFan
