A report from the Warcraft 1.20 Beta is online at LoadedInc today. The patch went up app. 24 hours earlier, so these guys are fast :-). Here's how the article starts:
There were real issues with balancing in the previous patches and Blizzard have pulled out all the stops to address some of the gameplay problems. The new patch not only revealed the new Undead Dread Lord ultimate spell called Infernal, which is a mammoth burning rock called from the sky, but it also added balancing and items to the gameplay.
Prior to this patch games were frustrating with most testers opting for rush tactics. From what we can tell from playing the v1.20 patch, things have been improved in the balancing department. Tonight we actually managed to fend off a Night Elf Huntress attack with the humans, something that was never easy prior to v1.20. Other things that have been added include the multiple build unit construction abilty. The game now plays a LOT quicker with more than one building unit able to set to work on your constructions. This is a great improvement to the overall playability of the game.
Creating expansions are also a lot easier, even with the creeps beefed up. Having more than one unit constructing a building means you can get your Town Hall up really quick next to a mine then start popping up defenses like towers, something that always took time previously. As buildings build faster, it also means unit creation is quicker. Farms and Burrows for example always took some time to build and restricted quick unit building because they were required to expand your forces. For example, a farm can now be popped up in seconds if you have enough units working on the build, placing around 9 build units on a building certainly makes things appear a lot quicker allowing you to expand your army that much sooner. |
