The guys from HomeLan Fed sat down with Near Death's co-founder Brian Green for an interview about their project to revive Meridian 59. Here's a bit:
HomeLAN - How hard was it to obtain the rights to the game from 3DO?
Brian Green - Rob had been in contact with Trip for about a year before the purchase of Meridian 59. I think that 3DO realized that we could do more with the game than they could. After the negotiations started, 3DO was very cooperative. Negotiating the contract took some time, but in the end we agreed on a good deal that benefited all involved.
It was a bit frustrating because we couldn't talk about the deal due to a mutual non-disclosure deal with 3DO. We were eager to let everyone know what we were doing, and we did so as soon as we could!
The hard part for us was coming up with the money to buy the game. Rob and I are hardly wealthy, but we agreed it was too good an opportunity to pass up. This is the classic case of a company funded by maxxed out credit cards and loans from our families. The response has been very encouraging, so I'm optimistic that we won't starve to death |
