Three and a half fists out of five is the rating that Gameplanet gives to Wizardry 8 in their review. Here's something they have about the combat system:
If you are new to turn-based RPG, Wizardry 8 is a great game for beginners. There are two types of combat sequences that are used in Wizardry 8. One is called 'Phased Combat' where you can instruct your party on their next move which is then executed, or 'Continuous Combat mode. In Continuous combat mode you really dont need to do much apart from move your party in the right general direction and target something when you encounter an enemy fiend NPC or monster. This mode of combat also tends to speed up game-play considerably. Your party will automatically react depending on party order and each party member will attack accordingly, casting spells, throwing daggers or slicing the opponent with their swords. You are also able to change party order if you wish but the default party order is usually three members in front and three behind. The Wizardry 8 manual delves into the various modes of combat and combat formation quite well and is very descriptive which is good for those who enjoy the intricacies of combat. But for those of you who are not too keen on the ins and outs of combat, playing in Continuous Mode is highly recommended. Wizardry 8 also gives you the option of choosing the preferred level of game difficulty before embarking upon your adventure. |
