Arcanum - Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura: 8/10 points |
Great idea for a game and technically well executed, but missing some spark. The level cap was really annoying. |
Autoduel: 7/10 points |
What, no turrets? I enjoyed this game, but it doesn't have strong RPG elements to it. |
Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 10/10 points |
The game that is more compelling than this has yet to be made. This is the best there is for *role-playing* on a computer. |
Baldur's Gate 2 - Throne of Bhaal: 9/10 points |
Considering the potential range of power levels of characters starting this expansion, the designers did an excellent job of balancing things. Some good interactions with the NPC's. Not quite as compelling as BGII:SoA, but close. |
Betrayal at Krondor: 9/10 points |
Bought and played the game, *then* got hooked on the books. An excellent story. |
Betrayal in Antara: 6/10 points |
Not a bad game at all, but I couldn't help thinking that this was a washed-out watercolor compared to BaK's vibrant primary colors. |
Dark Sun 1 - Shattered Lands: 8/10 points |
I really enjoyed this game when it came out. There's nothing quite like having a hasted Thr-kreen ranger dual-wielding in the final battle! |
Darklands: 10/10 points |
A game in a different setting, alas, in an industry where different is bad. I've stayed up way too late playing many CRPG's, but this is the only one where I stayed up way too late just making new characters! |
Dungeon Siege: 3/10 points |
This game is to a real CRPG what an inflatable rubber doll is to a real date; it has roughly the correct form, but the feel is completely off and it utterly lacks the spark of life. |
Fallout 2: 8/10 points |
The game has a good storyline, interesting tactical challenges, and a wickedly morbid sense of humor. |
Freedom Force: 9/10 points |
Lots of fun! The game does a great job of conveying the mood of the genre and the various missions offer some interesting tactical situations. |
Planescape: Torment: 10/10 points |
The ending of this game moved me to tears. It is *that* good. |
Return to Krondor: 7/10 points |
A slightly uneven game that is good at establishing mood and interesting characters, but too limited in scope. |
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: 8/10 points |
Overall, an enjoyable game with a good story and good voice-over work. The silly console-based interface and three party member limit took away from my enjoyment, however. |
Sword of Aragon: 6/10 points |
An amusing resource/war game with minor role-playing aspects. |
