Hall of Fame module maker, Mad Wombat, is interviewed this week over at Neverwinter Vault. The discussion focuses on "Runes of Blood", a finalist in the IGF modding competition.
You use multiple terrains from dungeons to various outdoor landscapes. Did terrain ideas just come along or did you have a map of this module all along?
I really wanted players to feel like they were traveling in a large world, so that's why I made the world map and used it as a guideline for the players' travels. The world map appears as a load screen on many locations. As far as terrain choices, I just tried to mix up terrains and areas to try to give each area its' own particular flavor while hopefully conveying a sense of traveling a great distance. Of course, there are only so many tilesets available in NWN, so in a module with 100 locations, I needed to take different approaches to each area, and I hope each area is as unique as possible.
