RPGDot Game Rating Machine

Rubies of Eventide: 8/10 points

This game is currently my game of choice. It has a unique game design. The character development system is probably the best I've ever seen, allowing players to choose a huge number of skill combinations. The combat system can be a little annoying at first, but after getting used to it the benefits start to shine. KS'ing and ninja looting from outside the group are impossible. When entering combat a circle goes around you, your party, and any mobs that are involved in that combat. Any player that isn't in your party will not be able to effect anything inside of your combat area. Other mobs can however "add" when you fight too close and they wander by. My only complain about the combat system is that movement is awkward, but the developers are exploring improving the movement system, plus you can get used to it. The really nice thing about Rubies of Eventide is that anyone can download the whole client for FREE from their website. All content expansions and continuous patches are aslo all FREE (wish more games did this hehe). What I do not like about Rubies of Eventide is that there just isn't enough content! There are limited areas you can go to fight for each level bracket and only a little over a dozen implemented zones. Only about 1/5 of the final game world is actually implemented though so in the months to come with more areas added the limited content problem will hopefully be alleviated. Plus, since all software for the game will always be free you won't incurr any more costs than you would have otherwise when the rest of the content is added, unlike other games that only release 1 continent on release then charge for an expansion pack for another one later. I would highly recommend everyone to at least try this game. It is $15 per month (or much cheaper if you sign up for longer chunks of time) and gives you free software, so even if you don't like it you could play for 2 months to decide and still not be out any more money than if you bought a crappy game from the store. Download the game at www.rubiesofeventide.com and give it a wirl.
