HomeLANFed's John Callaham has the scoop on the upcoming (October 8-10) Indie Games Conference 2004 being held in Eugene, Oregon, as he talks with Jay Moore of GarageGames (GarageGames being the organizer for the conference)...
HomeLAN - Does a person have to be an independent game developer to attend the Con?
Jay Moore - Every year we have gamers masquerading as developers or play testers who slip in, but unless you've caught the incurable desire to make games, IGC would probably just be about drinking beers and playing games. We all know that's not why the developers come. OK, we have some business types who are entrepreneurs working on how to build sustainable business around independent game development, but they have to at least love playing games - no empty suits who are only about making money.
HomeLAN - Are there any surprises that you haven't revealed yet that will occur at the Con?
Jay Moore - You mean besides the mythical booth babes and late night parties... ah well no. The surprises for me are usually in the games that show up unannounced or at the very early place of having the fun essence. Last year Boomball (returning in a more completed state) and Fuzzy Teevee (now called Fuzzy Fever and coming out on Xbox) were head turners. The rest will be revealed in press releases and announcements coming soon.
