Adrenaline Vault have posted a detailed review on Pirates of the Caribbean. The final score is a reasonable 3.5/5 stars and here's an excerpt:
How you evaluate the gameplay in this game is a function of your expectations. It is extremely bizarre that Pirates of the Caribbean takes advantage in name of a link to a hit action movie, potentially attracting lots of new fans to the virtual pirate world, but yet squanders this opportunity with multifaceted complex gameplay. The explanation lies, of course, with the reality that the developers were simply intending this to be an improved version of the original Sea Dogs, and given that aspiration this offering succeeds admirably. This swashbuckling release incorporates a lot of different play components with endless possibilities, but each - fighting, conversing, sailing, trading, and even exploring - has key limitations. There are even a few bugs crashing you unceremoniously back to the desktop. Nonetheless, there is no denying that Pirates of the Caribbean contains some very entertaining elements, such as the introduction of supernatural undead sword-wielding skeletons (also present in the movie).
